Here are some Guided Math Fourth Grade Place Value Activities for my teacher friends. I hope this helps you to help students understand place value.
#1 Guided Math Fourth Grade Place Value Activities
This is how one teacher shows students a large number and then shows the students how to expand the number into the different values. Smart idea to use in guided math groups.

#2 Guided Math Fourth Grade Place Value Activities
Creating numbers and writing them in standard and expanded form
I use dice to have my students show place value. Fourth Graders start out with 4 dice. They roll them and create a 4 digit number. They write the number in standard and expanded form on a dry erase board. Once I check it for accuracy, they add one more dice and start again. This student progressed to using 10 dice for a number in the billions. I was curious when he asked to borrow some paperclips until I saw that he used them as commas. Great job!
#3 Guided Math Fourth Grade Place Value Activities
Rounding to the Hundredths
http://games4gains.com/blogs/teaching-ideas/45489732-roll-it-rounding-game
Students roll three dice and create decimal to the thousandths. They then round that decimal to the nearest hundredths and cover the number if it is available. If not, the student loses their turn.
#4 Rounding to the Thousands
Just like this game board for rounding, you can download ones from the same link above for rounding to the nearest thousands. This would be a good activity to teach in guided groups and then put into a guided math station. Students could then play this game with a partner. A student rolls 5 dice and creates a number like 45,361 , which would round to 45,000.
