Guided Math Third Grade Place Value Activities

Yes, here I am showcasing some great Guided Math Third Grade Place Value Activities for teachers to use in small guided groups.  These engaging math activities help the students become active learners right away.

#1 of Guided Math Third Grade Place Value Activities  Thanks to Suzie for this great idea.  I love how the students write the standard form and show the value.  They could even write the expanded form.  Click on the link below to download the free mats.  Suzie also has mats for numbers to the hundreds for students who need some differentiated lessons.  If the teacher shows the students how to do this with smaller numbers at the guided math group table, then the students could do the same thing with larger numbers during a math station.

#2 of Guided Math Third Grade Place Value Activities

Students in third grade can write on Styrofoam cups.  When they create numbers, they can take them apart to see the expanded form.  Put the cups together to see the standard form.  When students create numbers like this, they “see” the numbers and this concrete representation helps them to make connections between concepts.

This link will take you to a blog post that explains how this teacher makes place value houses.  The kids put cards on the houses to make numbers.  This picture shows a three digit number.  The teacher can ask the value of any digit or ask the students to write the standards number and expanded form.   I like how each student at the guided group table can be working on their own number once the group knows what to do.

Have fun with teaching place value with guided math third grade place value activities.
